General Information
In the Name of God
The prevalence of endometriosis- as one of the
gynecological diseases- has affected about 5 to10% of
women around the world who are in childbearing age. In
this disease endometrial tissue called an endometrial
implant, grows outside the uterus. Over time this
irritation may lead to inflammatory and chronic
disorders. In recent years, specialists have achieved
noticeable successes concerning treatment of
endometriosis. Nevertheless joint efforts have been made
in regional, national and international levels in order
to enhance clinical and research skills as well as the
quality of life for affected women.
This disease influences physical, mental and social
welfare of those suffering from it. Scholars have hardly
discovered the molecular mechanism involving in its
progression.
Therefore Avicenna Research Institute (ARI) - as one of
the developed centers in the field of infertility
treatment in the country- has set the ground for
scientific and research activities on endometriosis. In
this regard, application of animal models for evaluation
of pentoxiphilin, CA-125 measurement in serum of
patients suffering from this disease and investigation
of the role of antithyroid antibodies in affected women
are among the activities performing in ARI.
The development of endometriosis appears to involve the
body’s physiological systems. The results of studies
carried out in this regard show that inflammatory
factors and cytokines in immune system, immune-related
genes, polymorphisms shaping genetic diversity in
endometriosis patients, endocrinology including
epidermal growth factors in particular VEGF & GnRH, the
role of estrogen and progesterone, nutrition,
environmental risk factors, chemokine receptors are
among the major reasons which are known to cause
endometriosis. Nowadays numerous studies in the field of
genetics, immunology, environmental biology, surgery and
endometriosis reproductive health are conducting in many
laboratories and research centers around the world.
With respect to the fact stated, Avicenna Research
Institute has the privilege to hold the first national
congress on endometriosis on Nov 12-13, 2008 with the
aim to provide a forum for scientific and research
activities to raise the public awareness and plan the application of new therapeutic methods. The congress
shall concentrate on the latest scientific findings of
endometriosis in terms of pathology & etiology, medical
treatments, the causes of infertility treatment failures
as well as enhancing the quality of life for patients
suffering from this disease.
It is expected this congress provide an opportunity for
clinical physicians and scientists to share their
knowledge concerning endometriosis treatments. We
looking forward to seeing the active participation of
all stakeholders both directly and indirectly involved
in the promotion of women’s health with endometriosis.
We hope your assistance in this regard will help us to
disseminate the related news and convey the message of
this venture to those who for any reason are seeking to
get more information in the field of endometriosis.
